Motorola Solutions Supports Cybersecurity Framework to Improve the Nation’s Defense from Cyber Attacks

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2014 – Today at the White House, the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released the Cybersecurity Framework, a voluntary collaboration between government and industry to improve the nation’s defense against the increasing threat of cybersecurity attack. Since last year when the president tasked NIST to build the framework, Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) has supported and participated in the process to develop and promote best practices to protect the nation from cyber attacks.

KEY FACTS

  • As a leading provider of mission-critical communications, Motorola Solutions plays an important role in supporting the nation’s ability to plan for, prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from all hazards, including man-made and natural incidents. Motorola’s participation in the development of the voluntary Cybersecurity Framework underscores the collaborative approach for the establishment of industry-led standards, guidelines and best practices.
  • When it was issued last year, Executive Order 13636, Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, tasked NIST with convening the private sector to develop a new Cybersecurity Framework. Since then, Motorola and other companies have worked with NIST to develop voluntary, industry-led standards, methodologies, procedures and processes to address cyber risks.
  • During the development of the Cybersecurity Framework, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has led an interagency cybersecurity task force, acting as a centralized resource and program manager. DHS continues to encourage and advocate for industry-driven approaches to implement both the framework and the updated National Infrastructure Protection Plan.
  • As a supplier of more than 10,000 systems deployed in more than 100 countries, Motorola Solutions has dedicated significant resources to protect our global enterprise systems, as well as secure our product design, development, deployment, operations and maintenance capability.
